Error Codes & Build Status

Possible Build Status Values Returned

Status Value

Definition

initialized

This status is used only by our Manage platform and signals original creation of the asset record (based only on metadata, not on existence of the content file). You can ignore for your purposes.

activated

When a record gets acknowledged by the build server, this status is returned.

destroyed

We need to remove this from our external documentation. Nobody externally has the permission to destroy a piece of content, and there is only one personally internally who can do it.

files_uploaded

This is when the actual ingestion process starts within our build server. We’ve received your file and accepted it.

graphics_cached

Not applicable for you. This is in regard to an old, proprietary eBook format we used to support. You can ignore for your purposes.

ingest_failed

PDF file has failed to be ingested so we count this status as “failure” and it should be new delivery of PDF provided.

build_attempted

Conversion of PDF file into VBK format is running.

build_failed

Conversion of PDF file into VBK format is failed so we count this status as “failure” and it should be new delivery of PDF provided.

vbk_created

Conversion of PDF file into VBK format is finished but the process is not finished yet.

released

This is a sub-step of the final build process.

acquired

This is a sub-step of the final build process.

pending_approval

This is a sub-step of the final build process.

approved

File has been successfully converted to vbk and is live and marked as “In Inventory” in Manage. This status is irrespective of the availability of the content in the VST store, but if you’re including marking the content as available for sale in the store as standard practice in your metadata, then it will be live in the store at this point.

unavailable

File is not available on the build server.

limited_distribution

This build status is set by the content owner, and indicates that the content is on its way out of distribution. All current distributors can still use the content, and any end user who already has a license to the content will retain access, but it’s a visual indicator that future adoptions may be at risk if/when the content owner retires the title.

out_of_distribution

If you mark a title as out of distribution, this means that no new distributors can be added to the title and no new Bookshelf codes can be created against it. Users who already had a license to the content will retain access, but no new users will be able to buy the content.
